What happened to Detroit, Michigan?

When the American car companies went bankrupt, Detroit fell apart. Detroit used to be an industry leader in the county, and the world, and now they have huge crime and unemploymet rates. Once the economy gets better Detroit will indeed "rise from the ashes" but as to when that will be, who knows.
